When I used to live permanently in Nairobi, matatus (mini buses) were the main form of public transportation. They were insanely chaotic, painted bright colors, blasted bass thumping tunes and riding one was one of the most thrilling things to do in Nairobi.
Nowadays the scene has severely changed and there are many more laws in place so that matatus don’t get too out of control. There have also been attempts to get rid of the minibuses entirely and go to larger buses. But here at the River Road station, there are still plenty of matatus.
