After spending much of my time in the northern part of Sri Lanka, around Jaffna, I traveled back to Colombo and just had a few days before flying out.

One day I decided to make a quick day trip to Galle, one of the most famous and historically important cities in Sri Lanka.
After leisurely walking around Galle Fort and grabbing some Sri Lankan fish cutlets, I took another local bus to Unawatuna to enjoy the gorgeous beach and sunset.

And about that dude on the bus playing the hand drum, i would like to see a longer video. I forgot about his rapping skills…

Hey guy, unfortunately the sound on that video was terrible, I guess we were sitting next to the window and the camera picked up all the wind instead of the sound of the dude singing – but it really was a great song he jammed. I’m going to see if I can edit the wind out, but not sure it will be good enough… I know man, I was missing Sri Lankan making this as well!

Hi Mark, How long you been in Galle. There are many many beautiful places around Galle to see. Ex: Unawatuna Beach, Hikkaduwa Beach (Coral Reefs), Polhena Beach, Galle Habour, The Light House and many more… There is a whole different culture in southern part of Sri Lanka where you can’t find them around Colombo.
Anyway Have you been to Katharagama (in Southeast part of Sri Lanka, near Hambantota)? You should go there when the Perahara Season (Full moon poya day in August).

Hey Oshan, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Unfortunately I’m no longer in Sri Lanka… but wish I could still explore more of these places you recommended. I did visit Unawatuna for a day, but wasn’t able to go further south. Are you from Katharagama? I would love to visit someday!

Hi Mark, I’m not from Katharagama. I’m from Panadura (abt. 25km south from Colombo). But there are some places that most of Sri Lankans visit annually where they have festivals. Kandy & Katharagama in August. Nuwara Eliya in April. Anuradhapura in June. These are the festival seasons in those areas.
Also another thing is when you are visiting those areas on those periods, you want be able to see the place clearly because it’s too much crowded. For your information and others who may see these comments, I will put some Google image results here so that you can get an idea about what I’m telling. 🙂
Katharagama; (They have this Perahara for the “God Katharagama” in Hinduism)

Anuradhapura: (This city is the ancient capital of Sri Lanka where most of the Kings that ruled Sri Lanka lived. The Biggest Sthupa “Jethawanaramaya” is taller than the tallest Pyramid in Egypt and it was build in the same time)

And also if you like beautiful scenarios you should go to “Badulla” form a Train (it will take about 6 hours from bus and 12 hours to go from train but it’s worth going on train).

Thanks Oshan! Makes me want to return to Sri Lankan right away to see some of these festivals and enjoy the beauty of the island. I spent just 3 weeks in Sri Lanka, but had an incredible time and it really was one of the best countries I’ve visited. Thanks for sharing!

Another great video, Mark. I love how you capture the true spirit of a place in your videos, with all the hustle and bustle! And I always like seeing you dive into all the different foods here… those random fish snacks look great!

Thank you very much for taking the time to watch Steph. Those little fish cutlets are basically ground fish mixed with all kinds of spice and then deep fried – seriously tasty!
