VIDEO: Roti Canai – Eating Malaysian Breakfast

Thank you for watching!

(You can also watch this roti canai video on YouTube)

In this episode of Migrationology Food TV, I’m in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for a typical on-the-go Malaysian food breakfast known locally as a roti canai.

With south Indian influence, this type of roti is very similar to a paratha bread, basically a ball of dough that’s slapped until thin, folded over and cooked until golden crispy. Served with a side of dipping curry sauce, it’s wonderful!

I also had a few cups of teh tarik, the local style of milk tea.

    Mark,

Where did you find the best roti canai in KUL? Is the place in the video in the Brickfields area?

I just had dinner and now I feel like eating this breakfast!! Looks really good!

I can’t believe I am in Lisbon right now, where a paratha costs 2Euros (!!!) in the only place I know that serves them in town!..

That chai or teh tarik looks like the perfect drink for washing down the south Indian influenced breakfast. If I get to KL, I’ll probably spend the majority of my time savoring the delicious and affordable street food.

It really does wash things down nicely. Hope you can get to Malaysia sometime in the future, I know you’ll absolutely love the mixture of cuisine.
