Korean Air – Do They Serve the Best Airplane Food? (video)

You’ve probably eaten a lot of bad airplane food.

But have you had good airplane food?

I’ve taken Korean Air a few times now, and I’d have to say their food is some of the best airplane food of any airline I’ve ever flown.

Normally, when you fly with Korean Air, you have the choice of a few Western dishes, or the “Korean meal” as they call – which is bibimbap – the awesome Korean rice salad mixture.

You should choose the bibimbap, which is one of my favorite Korean dishes.

Of course, you can’t compare food at a restaurant on solid ground to airplane food – it’s not going to compare – but for airplane food, I think Korean Air does a great job.

Any other airlines with good food?

That video explains everything. There is no doubt that the food was great for an airplane food. Will try Korean Air next time.

Have you tried Asiana Airlines? They too are Korea based. On a flight to Bangkok I chose the Korean entree which consisted of grilled pork with sheet tofu. Also came with lettuce to wrap it in and the spicy bean paste. Plus a shrimp cocktail and the most delightful lemon chiffon cake. So good!

Hey Ari, I haven’t had a chance to fly Asiana yet, but I would love to. Thanks for the recommendation.

It was pretty good video of Korean air plane foods. I tried that one before it was good alright and I tried to make at home, it turned out not so bad. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work.

Wow! That’s great to know Mark. Actually Ive heard from most of my korean friends that korean air and asiana are the best airlines to seoul but havent heard about airplane food. Ive been eating lots of korean food and one of them is bibimbap. And ofcourse you’re right that airplane food cant be compared to the real authentic restaurant or home cooked bibimbap. But this documentation is very helpful for flyers specially the frequent ones. Compared to other airlines i guess this is good airplane food. Had a bad experience with airplane food when i went to marrakech and cassablanca. Their airplane food made me vomit (literally). I flew in one of the best airlines expecting the best but it didnt go that way ????. Anyway, keep up the good work!

Hi Mark, That looks really good. I take 3 or more flights on EVA per year NY to Taipei n on to Surabaya. Cant afford first or business class but upgrade with air miles, I enjoy the meals in economy, but when I do upgrade wow its really something.

Korean Air is not the flagship carrier of South Korea and by the looks of it, that Bibimbap you’re eating doesn’t look authentic neither tasty to me. I know we have different taste but in my opinion and according to online surveys, Asiana Airlines serves better airplane food. 🙂

Hey mark! I really enjoyed that video!
I am thinking about flying with korean air this summer and the bibimbap looks amazing!
Do you know if this specific dish is always served? Like on every flight or is it served only once in a while?
Because I read an article where they said that there are other korean dishes as well.. But I really want to try the bibimbap since it got many good reviews and everyone is hyping it hahaha

Hi Kate, good to hear you’re thinking about flying Korean Air. I’m not totally sure, but in my experience just about every flight has offered it to me, and at least the flights leaving out of Seoul (when they have re-stocked in Seoul). Just to let you know, their bibimbap of course is not to be compared to a version at a real restaurant, but it’s very good when comparing it to most airline food!

I like this idea of documenting airplane food! I used to work for Asiana Airlines (the competitor of Korean Air ) as a cabin crew and that chilli paste in a tube is called “ko-ju-jang” (sounds like) , and passengers always ask for seconds or 3rds of it when Bibimbap is served.
Malaysia Airlines has awesome food on board too. (just not the snacks) I like their Nasi Lemak its really pretty good (of course as you said not comparable to the real deal on ground) but pretty fly for plane food.
The best is their Satay service (but only on business class) which has won awards. lamb, beef and chicken satay is served as an appetizer before meals. chunky satay peanut sauce too, which is the best 🙂

Hey Jean, thank you for the feedback, my first time ever to document airplane food. Thanks for the tip, now I know how to order more of the bibimbap sauce!
