  • Bama

Mark, those pictures are jaw-dropping!!! great shots…
By the way, at #18 looks like you took that picture while having dinner. A few days ago I read a friend of mine’s blog who says that going out after 7 pm in Nairobi is extremely dangerous due to rampant robbery. In other countries which he visited (Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda) robbers do exist, but they only use knife. But in Nairobi they use guns (even AK-47). Is that right?

    • Mark Wiens

Hey Bama, thanks for the comment.
There is always a danger to going out at night in Nairobi, it depends on where you are going and how you go about going out.

When I lived in Nairobi, I lived with my family in the neighborhood outskirts of the city. If I wanted to go out at night, I would normally stay with my friend who lived closer into the city, so I would not have to journey out to the neighborhoods where things are dark and have more of a potential for crime.

This being said, yes, there is a fare amount of crime, but sometimes I guess we just must take some risks (but try to avoid them).

    Some amazing shots, Mark!
What inspires me to travel are those little moments when you absolutely forget about the life around you and just enjoy the moment πŸ™‚

You got that right—I want to jump out of my chair right now and go traveling to these places! I’ve only been to 3 of them (Maui, Iguazu Falls, and Hong Kong) and want to see the rest for sure πŸ™‚

Great photos! But not everyone finds food as fascinating – especially on a travel expose! less food photos, more places πŸ™‚

@Dan: Thanks, I understand – I happen to find a bit of divine inspiration from food around the word – but many places as well.

These are stunning! I particularly love the photo of Coron Island in the Philippines and the school kids in the Philippines. I also love the photo of Makapu’u Point on Oahu. I used to love that area when I lived on Oahu.

@Lisa: Great, yes, Have you seen any whales from that point before? Last time I was there, we were able to see some – with a pretty good view.

Incredible images!! Just makes me think about how many places and things there are actually to see in this amazing world of ours =)

@Andrea: These pictures barely display a fraction of our possibilities of things to see and experience in this world!
