Zanzibar is really one of the most beautiful places in the world. I took this photo from hanging out on the rooftop of a boat, slowly sailing past this quiet fishing village beach. Enjoying the beautiful nature of Zanzibar is one of the best things to do in Zanzibar. If you’re interested, check out this [...]
Photo: Fresh Turmeric Root in Sri Lanka
by Mark Wiens on May 4, 2012
Sri Lankan food is extremely delicious, and one of the spices that’s a fundamental part of the cuisine is turmeric root. I took this photo in an area near Pusselawa and the turmeric was picked by a local grandmother that proceeded to cook one of the best chicken curries I’ve ever tasted in my life!
Photo Favorite: Beautiful Tree Lined Road in Guilin
by Mark Wiens on April 6, 2012
It’s not only the gorgeous Li River or the karst mountain peaks that make Guilin so beautiful, but even just the trees are famous. This street near downtown Guilin city in China was lined with trees that neatly shaded the entire road making the scenery beautiful!

Visiting the Stone Town nightly food market is one of my favorite things to do in Zanzibar. There are many street stalls set up with huge amounts of seafood all skewered and [...]
Photo Favorite: Streets of Xingping
by Mark Wiens on March 9, 2012
After finishing the 20+ kilometer hike from Yangdi to Xingping, we stopped by to take a look around Xingping and also catch a bus back to Yangshuo. Xingping is a little ancient Chinese town, and despite the massive crowds of Chinese tourists around, it was a pleasant place to browse.
Photo Favorite: Nairobi Matatu Station
by Mark Wiens on March 2, 2012
When I used to live permanently in Nairobi, matatus (mini buses) were the main form of public transportation. They were insanely chaotic, painted bright colors, blasted bass thumping tunes and riding one was one of the most thrilling things to do in Nairobi. Nowadays the scene has severely changed and there are many more laws in place [...]
