You’re coming to BANGKOK! You’re excited and ready, but don’t quite know how to go about renting an apartment… … As a result of writing an article about how I live in Bangkok for under $300 per month, I’ve received a number of e-mails asking me about the best way of renting cheap apartments in Bangkok. I [...]
Photo Favorite: Pig’s Penis…Anyone?
by Mark Wiens on February 24, 2012
I find myself unable to resist the temptation to sample freakishly weird foods. That’s why when I see something like skewers of pig’s penis twirled around a stick in China, I have to try it. After ordering a skewer of the pinkish flesh the guy grilled it up to a crisp. It was definitely chewy.
Epic Japanese Food (in Full Mouthwatering Glory)
by Mark Wiens on February 23, 2012
This is not your normal street food post that you normally see here. The photos you’re about to see were in the comfort of a real sit down restaurant in a private Japanese room at a restaurant in Bangkok. The central distribution of fruits and vegetables for much of Hanoi begins at Long Bien at about midnight and continues until around 6 am the next morning. For those 6 hours the entire scene is a straight up fight of [...]

by Mark Wiens on February 14, 2012
To be honest I had no clue where we were going… …or even what we were doing. The day began in the northern Sri Lankan town of Jaffna.
