I had no idea Clark Manila airport was so far away from Manila city itself when I flew into the Philippines. Luckily, I had arranged to meet some friends on Potipot Island in Zambales, which was already in that direction from Manila.
I caught a bus to Olongapo town proper where I caught the Victory Liner Bus heading towards Candelaria, Zambales. Around 4 hours later the driver woke me up to let me know that I had arrived. Hot and sticky, I relaxed for a few moments at the Isla Vista Beach Resort. I proceeded to take a 10 minute canue ride to reach the tiny island of Potipot to meet up with friends I had met through the wonderful project of couchsurfing.
My first night in the Philippines was spent on the tiny island. There was no electricity or development on the island and one could circumference the island in a matter of minutes. The water was wonderful, the air was clean, the sunset was beautiful, and all was calm and quiet.
That night I slept like a baby, on the shores of the water, in the sand.
I must say, Potipot island was not a bad place to spend my debut night in the Philippines.
I wouldn’t call Potipot a must see destination in the Philippines as there are countless other beautiful spots within the archipelago. However, if you are looking for a little rest and relaxation, its a glorious place.

Hey Mark. Went back here last weekend with my family. It’s changed a lot since my last visit, and I bet since your’s too. I remember when there were only nine people in the island: Me, my parents, my sis & my friends, plus a few fishermen. Now, I can’t go around the island without stumbling across people. It’s great that people are enjoying it, but I can’t help but miss the solitude. Haha.

We just came back from there. Too bad that Manila Bay cannot be made to look like the water. It was a loooong trip by boat, but definitely worth the trip! Good things obviously come to those who wait

Dude what a cool island! You didnt tell me this story, i guess its just a one day trip but man anywhere that has people, but does not have electricity or developed buildings with foundations… that is just lovely! And that picture of the sunset is stunning
